Introduction

Shimano's Butterfly Jigging is not just a lure, it is a complete system, allowing anglers to catch more fish by using specially designed lures, braided line, leader, stinger hooks, very sensitive light action rods, and precision manufactured Shimano reels.

Why are they called Butterfly Jigs and What is Butterfly jigging?

Shimano's new butterfly jigs are called this because of their butterfly like fluttering action while being jigged.

Butterfly jigging was originally used by anglers off the coast of Japan to catch Blue Fin tuna at depths down to 500 feet using the first generation of braided lines with flourocarbon shock leaders. The Shimano product development team created a new design of butterfly lures and created this new way of fishing in North America using the new Shimano Butterfly system. This new system helped anglers catch more fish compared to other anglers using live bait during field testing!

The field testing was conducted all around the United States using the butterfly jigging system. The system was used in waters of Gulf of Mexico and off the Florida Keys on amberjack, snapper, grouper, and kingfish, off the west coast for yellow tail, tuna, and calico bass or rock fish, and tuna and stripers in the northeast with amazing results in all locations.

About the Hooks

Butterfly jigs use Stinger hooks at the top of the lure. This allows the lure to flutter naturally and an added benefit of not hanging up on structure, unlike traditional lures which have treble hooks that get caught up easily when fishing wrecks and other underwater structure. Owner has specially designed Dancing Stinger Hooks with technora fabric loops available in sizes 1/0 up to 7/0 for use with butterfly jigs.
