The Old Fisherman's Tale:
All superlines cut the guides on your rod.
Not true. Some of the first superlines introduced to the market were
the aramids (Kevlar®). Aramids have a relatively high coefficient of friction,
and are abrasive not only to the guides on reels, but also to the lines
themselves. Spectra® Fiber is composed of polyethylene, a very slick plastic;
in fact about the only material slicker than polyethylene is Teflon. PowerPro
with Enhanced Body Technology results in a rounder and smoother line than any of
the other braided lines available today, and is gentler on rod guides than older
Spectra® fiber braids!
Some hints when spooling Power Pro Line
Leave at least enough monofilament to cover the bottom of the spool. When you
put monofilament onto your spool, it stretches significantly even with a very
small amount of tension. This stretch makes the line squeeze the barrel of the
spool, gripping it tight. The superlines don't stretch, so you don't get this
gripping action on the barrel of the spool. If your reel has a hole through the
barrel of the spool, use it; if not, we recommend that you leave at least 5 to
10 yards of mono on the bottom of your reel before spooling with PowerPro to
make the line grip. Otherwise, the line may actually spin on the arbor of the
spool. It's slick! Attach mono to PowerPro using back to back Uni-Knots.
Using a Mono Leader
There are two reasons to use a leader with Power Pro:
1) Clear water/finesse fishing situations. In certain situations, many
anglers catch more fish when they present the bait at the end of a monofilament
leader. Tie on a few feet of mono using a Uni to Uni splice (try those new
fluorocarbons), and get the sensitivity you need with the presentation you
want.
2) Shock Tippet. If you are fishing for species that hit fast and hard, you
may want to temper the initial strike with a shock tippet. For close-in
situations like bait fishing, use a 3 to 10 foot tippet tied on with the Uni
splice. In big game fishing applications you may want to use 100 yards or more
of monofilament.
Cutting Power Pro
These lines are hard to cut and nail clippers will not do the job. We
recommend sharp scissors to get the job done.
Coloring Power Pro
Spectra® Fiber is an inert material with a dense molecular structure and
cannot be dyed like traditional fibers. The color simply encapsulates the fiber,
and with time will wear off. This is normal, and the strength and performance of
the line will not be affected. If you want to re-color the line, simply take a
permanent magic marker and color the line whatever color best suits the
situation you fish.
